The mission of Neighborhood Sports, is to develop confidence, self-esteem, and sportsmanship through the performance of recreational team sports, while promoting physical and moral character development to all participants. To ensure the appropriate atmosphere for these activities, the organization has adopted a zero tolerance policy in the enforcement of the Parent’s Code of Conduct.

* I hereby agree to and pledge to provide positive support, care, and encouragement for my child/ward participating in activities of NS by following this Parents’ Code of Ethics.

* I (and my guests) will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice or other event.

* I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.

* I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child/ward ahead of my personal desire to win.

* I will never ridicule or yell at my child/ward or other participant for making a mistake of losing a competition.

* I will insist that my child/ward play in a safe and healthy environment.

* I will require that my child/ward’s coach be trained in the responsibilities of being a coach and that the coach upholds the Coaches’ Code of Conduct.

* I will support coaches and officials working with my child/ward, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.

* I will demand a sports environment for my child/ward that is free from all weapons, drugs, tobacco and alcohol and will refrain from their use at all events.

* I will remember that the game is for youth - not adults.

* I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child/ward. I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability.

* I will help my child/ward enjoy the experience by doing whatever I can, such as being a respectful fan, assisting with coaching, or providing transportation.

I do understand and agree that I will abide by the above Code of Conduct, If I do not live up to the Parents’ Code of Conduct, I will be subject to disciplinary action that could include, but is not limited to the following: verbal warning by official, coach, or On-site director; ejection from gym or field; parental game suspension, game forfeit; or season suspension with no refund of fees and no credits for future seasons. I understand and agree that this Parent Code of Conduct will be applied in conjunction with and consistently with the Refund Policy, which is incorporated herein by reference.

Any regular registration canceled BEFORE our regular registration deadline will be refunded in full minus a $20 cancellation fee.

Any cancelations occurring after the regular registration deadline will be issued a refund that will be pro-rated based on # of weeks played.

Looking to get into the coaching world? Don't have a child to coach? You've come to the right place. Neighborhood Sports is always looking for positive and enthusiastic volunteer coaches who are willing to help young players learn the game of the sport they are playing in a fun and safe atmosphere.

Coaching a youth sports team can be a tremendously rewarding experience, additionally the bond created by a coach and a player is one that will be cherished and remembered for years to come. 

No prior coaching experience necessary - as Volunteer coach, you will be given all the resources and support you need to help you succeed. 

Coaches must satisfy all league obligations, which include:

1. Pass a mandatory background check
2. Complete the Concussion Certification
3. Attend the mandatory virtual coaches meeting
4. Be able to attend all practices and games for the season

Thank you for your interest in becoming a flag football official with Neighborhood Sports. We take great pride in our official selection process as it's incredibly important that we ensure we have quality officials who are dedicated to the game of flag football.

What experience is necessary?

None. We will train all new officials. Both an online test with a passing score of 80% or better plus on-field training will be required. Your first day out will consist of two hours. Within those two hours you will learn the tips of the trade from a training official. During training, officials will not be paid.

What expectations will officiating have of me?

To become a respected official, one must invest time to learn, time to practice and time to develop. Although the time devoted will vary from person to person, there are some requirements that must be observed. Rules meetings, clinics and official’s meetings are necessary, and part of the professionalism expected of officials. As with most things, officials improve according to their efforts.

What expenses will I have?

1.   You will need to purchase a black and white striped shirt in either the 1” or 2” width of stripes.

2.   Black football officiating pants or shorts shall be worn with the contrasting white side stripe.

3.   Solid black lanyard

4.   Whistle

5.   Black Belt

6.   Black shoes and socks.

7.   The penalty flag shall be yellow.

8.   The referee shall wear a black cap with white piping.

9.   A stopwatch (not your phone)

How much do I get paid?

Game pay ranges by league location but typically pay starts around $20 - $25 hour.

I am interested in moving forward, what do I need to do?

STEP 1. Submit your application to become an official.

STEP 2. You will be contacted by a representative regarding the application and officiating opportunities in your area.

STEP 3. Read and study the online rulebook. You must know the rules of the game inside and out to be an official in our program.

The best officials come from those who have both the passion and knowledge of the game. Typically, we have found that past players who have played in our flag football program have the attributes needed to develop into a fantastic flag football official.

Therefore, we have created the Neighborhood Student Officials Program to help students with either volunteer credit hours or paid weekend work during the school year.

Who is eligible to become a "Neighborhood Program" NFL Flag official?

Any high school student is eligible.

What does it take to become a good official?

Most certainly a very thorough knowledge of the rules of the game. However, in addition, a love of athletics and kids, physical ability, self-confidence, the dedication and determination necessary to work hard, and above all, personal integrity. The athletes and coaches look upon each contest as being the most important thing happening in their lives at that moment, and the official must look upon each contest the same way and react accordingly. This avocation is not for everyone, but if you have the interest and the attributes described above, you may find this to be some of the most rewarding work you will ever be involved in.

What is the biggest adjustment or challenge that I will face?

It is important to understand that the basic ingredient of officiating is that of being a decision maker, and sometimes people do not like decisions that don’t go their way. Once you clear this hurdle and realize that people will criticize you because you make necessary decisions, rather than because you are a bad person, and you can accept this fact, you are on your way. It is not easy. Do not get discouraged! Stay in the game!
